HERBIERS

Fresque réalisée pour un particulier dans le centre historique de Sélestat en Alsace.

Cette commande fait suite à un projet que j’avais réalisé avec la Bibliothèque humaniste.

Pour cette peinture, nous avons choisi quatre plantes dans L’herbier d’Otto Brunfels, un ouvrage précieux issus de la collection de la bibliothèque humaniste datant de l’époque de la renaissance (XVI siècle).

Les plantes sélectionnées ont toutes un lien avec l’histoire du lieu et avec l’Ordre de Malte. La vigne était cultivé à l’époque dans la région pour commercer et financer les croisades, pèlerinages, commanderies, maisons, hôpitaux etc… Le Lierre, le Fumeterre et le Pentaphyllum (herbe de l’immortalité) était utilisé par l’Ordre pour ses propriétés médicinales.

Fresco made for an individual in the historic center of Sélestat in Alsace. This order follows a project that I had carried out with the Humanist Library. For this painting, we have chosen four plants from The Herbarium of Otto Brunfels, a precious work from the collection of the Humanist Library dating from the Renaissance period (16th century). The selected plants all have a link with the history of the place and with the Order of Malta. The vine was cultivated at the time in the region to trade and finance the crusades, pilgrimages, commanderies, houses, hospitals etc… Ivy, Fumeterre and Pentaphyllum (grass of immortality) were used by the Order for its medicinal properties.
